Frank van Hove Bass
The German bass Frank van Hove sings a diverse repertoire, not only including the Mozart roles Sarastro|Magic Flute, Osmin|Entführung, Leporello|Don Giovanni and Don Alfonso|Così fan tutte, but also Ochs|Rosenkavalier and the prominent Wagner bass roles such as Landgraf Hermann|Tannhäuser, Pogner|Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, König Heinrich|Lohengrin and Daland|The Flying Dutchman. Definitely as one of his outstanding bass roles needs the Gurnemanz|Parsifal to be mentioned.
Further roles which Frank von Hove has performed so far with great success are, amongst others: Father Guardiano|Forza del destino, Pimen|Boris Godunov, Aquarius|Rusalka, Kecal|Verkaufte Braut, Gremin|Eugene Onegin, Colline|La Bohème, and Arkel|Pelleas and Melisande. Recently he impressively sang the Demon in the opera Merlin by Carl Goldmark in a CD production of the Bavarian Radio.
Frequently van Hove has engagements in Mannheim, where he recently has performed Baron Ochs. Other roles in Mannheim were for example: Publio|La clemenza di Tito, Timur|Turandot, Don Alfonso, Pogner, Sarastro, Lodovico|Otello, Monterone|Rigoletto, Colline and Fasolt|Das Rheingold.
Under the baton of Donald Runnicles he sang Lodovico|Otello at Deutschen Oper Berlin in March 2011, furthermore Enrico VIII.|Anna Bolena at Luzern Theatre. In 2011-12 season van Hove will perform inter alia Priest & Badger|The Cunning Little Vixen at Komische Oper Berlin, followed by an invitation to Mannheim as Gurnemanz and Colline, and he will perform Rudolf/Baron/Wirt|Der ferne Klang at Bonn Opera.
After his studies of philosophy and theology, Frank van Hove started to study singing with Kurt Moll, Rudolf Piernay and especially with Irina Hartmann in Berlin. First stage experience he gained as improvisational actor at the "Bonn Springmaus", then he became an ensemble member on the stages of the Theatre Dessau. Later on he joined the State Theatre Braunschweig and was until the summer of 2010 ensemble member at the National Theatre Mannheim.
In addition to his extensive opera activities, he is consistently asked in the concert field. He sang the St. Matthew Passion under Kent Nagano in Sao Paulo in Brazil, the Mozart Requiem and the Missa Solemnis at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples under Gary Bertini. He also has performed in France at the Opera de Lyon with Le Vin Herbé by Frank Martin under Friedemann Layer. Among his main roles in the concert field are e.g. Elijah, Paul and the Creation. Frank van Hove worked with directors like Willy Decker, Günter Krämer, Johannes Schaaf, Harry Kupfer and Jens Daniel Herzog.
