Matthias Wohlbrecht Tenor

Since 2004 Matthias Wohlbrecht has been a well established member of Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe where he quickly became one of the theatres best-loved singers. With great success he performed roles as Gastone|La traviata, Witch|Hansel and Gretel, Pedrillo|Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Valzacchi|Der Rosenkavalier, Roderigo|Otello, Yannakos|The Greek Passion, Mime|Siegfried, Scaramuccio|Ariadne auf Naxos, Loge|Das Rheingold, Jacquino|Fidelio, Count Boni|Die Czardasfürstin, Vogelhändler, Steuermann|Der fliegende Holländer, Pong|Turandot, Wolfgang Capito|Mathis der Maler, The Hunchback|Die Frau ohne Schatten, Edmondo|Manon Lescaut and Incroyable|Andrea Chenier. In 2011 Wohlbrecht will perform in Karlsruhe inter alia Loge and Mime as well as Tichon Iwanytsch|Katja Kabanowa.

After finishing his vocal studies at the Academy of Music in Würzburg and lateron with Floriana Cavalli and Anatoly Goussev in Milan, Wohlbrecht made his operatic debut as Dr. Blind|Die Fledermaus at the State Theatre of Würzburg in 1995. Already during his studies he had started an extensive concert career, singing countless concerts of mostly sacred music by Rossini, Mozart, Bach, Mendelssohn, Donizetti and many other composers.

During the season 1997/98, Wohlbrecht became the youngest member of La Scala's choir for one year. In March 1998 he sang his first Pedrillo at the Oberbayerisches Städtetheater and in a production of the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg. From 1998 to 1999 Wohlbrecht joined the Volkstheater in Rostock singing Adam|Der Vogelhändler and the Fox|Cunning Little Vixen.

After this he became member of the Staatstheater Darmstadt singing roles like The Hunchback, Podestà|La finta Giardiniera, Witch and the four Servants|Les contes d'Hoffmann. In 2001 Wohlbrecht became the leading character tenor of the renowned Nationalthater Mannheim, where he performed e.g. as Fool|Boris Godunow, First Stranger|Vetter aus Dingsda, Witch, Walther|Tannhäuser, Steuermann, als Hauptmann|Wozzeck und Jacquino.

2007 debuted Wohlbrecht as Pong at Teatro La Fenice in Venice, 2008 he was engaged as Loge|Das Rheingold in Bari and in 2010 as Mime|Siegfried at the new Teatro Petruzzelli as well in Bari. In March 2011 Wohlbrecht made his debut with Herodes|Salome at Teatro Lirico G.Verdi in Triest. At the end of July 2011 he jumped in with great success to sing the key role of Loge in Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra's Westpac Opera.
